1) Create / Share Wi‑Fi for the group
Best practice outside home: use a small travel router as the Wi‑Fi network and the hub device connected to it. If you must use a phone hotspot, you can still share credentials using this QR.
Wi‑Fi QR
How to join
On Android: open Camera → scan QR → connect to Wi‑Fi.
When internet is OFF
Calls/messages work only after everyone is on the same Wi‑Fi and the hub is reachable.
Important
If there is no shared Wi‑Fi/hotspot, no app can make a call.
2) Hub status (local server check)
This page checks whether your local hub is reachable. Use the hub address below. Typical examples: http://familyhub.local:8008 or http://192.168.8.1:8008.
Not checked yet
Enter your hub URL and press “Check hub”.
Quick links (Matrix/Element)
In Phase 1A, we do not build the full chat app here. Instead, use a Matrix client (recommended: Element). Configure it to use your hub homeserver address (the same hub URL above).
Tip: after you join the Wi‑Fi, open Element → “Change homeserver” → paste the hub URL → login/create accounts for family members.
3) “Call Family” checklist (offline-ready)
- Someone turns on the travel router (or phone hotspot).
- Everyone joins that Wi‑Fi (scan the QR above).
- Hub device is connected and reachable (use “Check hub”).
- Open Element and call/video-call inside the family room.
Emergency fallback (when only phone network works)
Matrix needs a network path. If the hub is unreachable and there is no shared Wi‑Fi, your only fallback is the normal phone call/SMS.
